Arizona is Safer than Ever!

safefamilyfunatsunsites.jpgArizona's new SB1070 immigration law has sent shock waves of heated argument across the nation.  We already know how this controversy will end: Courts of law will decide the fate of SB1070. In the meantime, one thing is very clear: Arizona is safer than ever!

Whether you tune in to national or state news sources, the facts are the same.  Statistics do not support "crime" as a key reason for the bill.  CNN reported on April 29, 2010, that statistics from the FBI and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency show the number of illegal crossers and violent crime have both decreased in the past several years--even in the face of strong population growth!   The nonpartisan Immigration Policy Institute agrees that crime rates in Arizona have fallen for years.  Fox News reported on August 7, 2010, that FBI statistics show a steady decrease in violent crime over the last three years in all major Arizona metro areas.  What was the title of the article?  "Threat of Border Violence in Arizona Appears Overstated, Analysts Say."

The Arizona Republic, Arizona's largest daily newspaper, took a similar stand on May 2, 2010. Statistics from the Arizona Department of Public Safety show a 12% drop in the overall crime rate from 2002 to 2009. The article quoted Clarence Dupnik, the sheriff of Pima County, as saying, "This is a media-created event. I hear politicians on TV saying the border has gotten worse. Well, the fact of the matter is that the border has never been more secure." A similar sentiment was emphatically expressed by Police Chief Roy Bermudez, who serves the border town of Nogales, "You can look at the crime stats. I think Nogales, Arizona, is one of the safest places to live in all of America."

Nothing has changed in Arizona!
